All about Me
Todo Sobre MiHello everyone and thanks for looking at the website specifically dedicated to the Spanish classes at SJS. I hope that you all will learn a lot of Spanish this year and enjoy it while you do!
A little bit about me ... I have taught Spanish for 20 years. I am a hardworking wife and mother who enjoys volunteering with her children outside of school, especially with Girl Scouts and Church. I have 3 children - Gabriel, 17, Mark, 14, and Cecilia, 13. My job has changed over the 20 years to include more technology and I love incorporating technology as much as I can in to learning. I love to teach Spanish through the method of personalization through technology and that guides my philosophy of teaching. The principals of UDL and the goals of ISTE combined with the goals of ACTFL guide my studies and the way I teach in the classroom. You can see more in my LinkedIn profile. - https://www.linkedin.com/in/gdempsey616 In the news ... - MFLA Teach of the Year Finalist, "A Little Elbow Room" front page SoMD news, and MFLA Best of Presentation at the Fall 2017 Conference (See letter --->)! You can also follow me on Twitter and Pinterest or through hashtag! Look for #straightouttadempsey308 for past posts from my last year teaching at SMRHS and now #profedempsey on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube! I have also been contributing to a lot of different Facebook groups including Teaching Spanish to Elementary/Secondary students, Fun for Elementary Spanish, and Spanish Mama. Spanish Mama has done me the EXTREME honor of featuring my work on her BLOG!!!! She loved the idea of my "A WHOLE llama love" board, made her own, and even made printables for Spanish teachers EVERYWHERE to replicate the awesomeness! Check it out ------> NECTFL 2018 in New York City was such an amazing experience. I learned all about what other schools are doing for their WL programs, exchanged lots of information and ideas regarding best practices and classroom activities, and my presentation went SOOOOOOOO well!!! I couldn't have asked for a better reception! You can follow the twitter feed from the event @gdemp616 and #nectfl18. You can also see the materials from the conference here. It is my absolute THRILL to share with you that my presentation with my partner, Crystal, from NECTFL won THE BEST OF NECTFL 2018! We will be presenting at the NATIONAL conference in New Orleans, LA November 2018 at the ACTFL Conference. I am so honored to be able to share the amazing strategies for student and teacher empowerment that I use at CPCS everyday with the world! CHECK IT OUT ----------> Presenting at ACTFL 2018 in New Orleans was amazing! I am so thankful for my teammate, Crystal, and all the support from MFLA and SMCPS. I was so honored at the warm reception by everyone who attended our session. ---> The Pulsera Project amazed me once again by inviting me to join in the teacher tour, giving me a partial fellowship and continuing opportunities to develop lessons to be used nationwide and to represent them at conferences and beyond! It was an incredibly enriching experience. Take a look. -----------------> |
